- Commode

Commodes provide a toileting option for individuals with limited mobility and for those who have difficulty reaching the bathroom. Most commodes feature removable buckets or pails that are used in place of the toilet, allowing the commode to remain close to the resident's bed when necessary. In addition to being used bedside, many commodes can be placed over a toilet for use as a raised toilet seat or toilet safety frame. These commodes are commonly referred to as 3-in-1 or all-in-one commodes and can provide stability and standing/sitting assistance when using the toilet. Many models offer height-adjustable legs or seats to accommodate the needs of the resident. In addition, drop-arm commodes feature arms that drop below the seat surface to facilitate lateral transfers to and from the commode. Frames are constructed of several materials including steel, aluminum, and composite plastic. A few models offer solid wood frames in an attempt to create a more aesthetically pleasing or furniture-like commode. Most commode frames are of the rigid type; however, several commodes feature folding frames that facilitate transport and storage of the commode. Seating surfaces are typically molded plastic or padded, and they can vary in their shape and dimensions depending on their intended use and their weight capacity. Commodes with higher weight capacities tend to be a bit deeper and offer seating surfaces that span the width of the commode. |
- Bath Bench

Bath benches are helpful devices that can be added to a shower or bath area, making it possible for people who are not able to stand to still enjoy the benefits of bathing. A shower bench may be a portable and thus temporary addition to the shower area or be permanently incorporated into the design of the shower stall. The design of a shower bench is relatively simple. A firm and level seating area allows the user to sit at a comfortable height to enjoy the stream of water from the shower nozzle. Benches that are portable often come with controls to manually adjust the height. When the shower bench is intended for use in a bathtub/shower combination, the seat of the shower bench is often level with the sides of the tub and will fit comfortably in the tub proper. The shower bench is often constructed using Plexiglas, hard plastics, or metal, making the bench water-resistant and easy to clean. A shower bench is ideal for people who are older, injured, or for some reason are not able to stand long enough to take a shower. By providing a slip-proof and sturdy seating option in the shower, the shower bench makes it possible for just about anyone to enjoy the relaxing qualities of a shower without fear of falling or having to hurry through before personal reservoirs of strength are exhausted. |
- Transfer Bench

Similar to tub and shower chairs, transfer benches provide a seating surface during showering. They also extend over the side of the tub to facilitate transfers and eliminate the need to step over the side of the tub while standing. Most of these devices come in the form of benches with legs. |
- Shower Chairs with Commode

Shower Chairs with commode opening, also known as combi-chairs, typically serve three purposes; transporting residents to toilet and shower areas, a commode/raised toilet seat, and a seating surface during showers. The multi-functionality of these chairs can reduce the number of transfers required to perform hygiene tasks. Many styles exist, ranging from basic rigid framed chairs with four casters to battery-operated chairs with powered seat elevation and tilting mechanisms. Some major features to consider include large rear wheels that enable the user to propel the chair independently, removable or swing-away armrests and footrests to ease transfers, tilting seat frames that may decrease caregiver bending and enhance resident comfort, and folding frames to facilitate storage and portability for travel. |
